Experiencia de clase

This course will take a deep dive into the all-important issue of plagiarism.

High School/Teen version here: https://outschool.com/classes/plagiarism-what-it-is-and-how-to-avoid-it-in-high-school-and-beyond-uV8Xy20W?sectionUid=89ae1382-e080-42c3-b71d-877c30c3565e&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

So often, I have seen learners write an essay by copying and pasting texts they have found on the internet without understanding what they are doing. This class aims to correct that issue by discussing, defining, identifying, and learning to avoid plagiarism.

We begin with a discussion and a definition of what plagiarism is. Following that, we will use an interactive game (created by and used with approval from Lycoming College) to help us identify cases of plagiarism. Next, we will learn what to do instead (quote, paraphrase, summarize, cite) and practice doing it. We will finish with a discussion about what the learners take away from the class.

Learners are encouraged to participate in an open discussion forum. A presentation will be on-screen for visual support and a copy will be available following the class. The presentation is a Google Slides creation and will be shared on the teacher's screen only. The interactive game is hosted on Lycoming College's website and will be shared on the teacher's screen only.

By the end of class, learners will clearly understand what plagiarism is, its possible consequences, and how it can be committed. They can also expect to add a solid method to introducing sources in their writing and various options apart from copying others' work to their English Language Arts (ELA), essay writing, and project tool kits.
