Grado de EE. UU. 9 - 12
This course will be great for all students. Whether they have no idea what they want to do as a career, they think their grades are too low to be accepted, or those who already know what college they're attending. This course will help them be comfortable in their choice and their future. In the first class, we'll determine what career field may be good for the students based on their interests and skills. Many times, people don't pursue their childhood career, so this isn't to push them towards one career or another, it's simply to make them aware of their options. They'll spend some time learning about and researching the career fields that they match closely with. The class will be a mixture of me presenting information, students working individually on a questionnaire to determine their interests and personality, and researching online. The second class will focus on researching schools. Students who have the same careers selected may work together if they like. We'll look at various factors including majors offered, size, cost, location, population, student life, sports division and more. When the class is complete, students will have the tools to continue in their search on their own (or with family, counselors, etc.) in the future. Slideshow presentation and videos may be used during one or both classes.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will have greater knowledge about what types of jobs/careers exists, which relate to their interests and skill set, and how to pick a major based on their interests, skills and other factors. They'll understand how to identify the differences between types of colleges such as private vs public, junior college vs trade schools and more. Additionally, students will have experience searching for colleges and universities and they'll use a list of criteria such as majors offered, acceptance rate, campus size, student life activities, cost, teacher student ratio and others to determine if the college is a good fit for them.

Identifying Your Skills and Interests
Scholars will take an assessment to identify their favorite subjects in school, their unique skills and rate their interest level in activities spanning the 16 career fields. Based on the assessment results, students will use the US bureau of Labor Statistics to research jobs within their top career fields. This research will help them determine if the required education, salary, working conditions, location and more are suitable for them. They'll then reflect on what career they want to pursue.

They will conduct research about those fields on the US Department of Labor and Statistics website if they have access to that site or they can Google the different industries and jobs to find out more information.
They will also search different colleges and compare them using the list of criteria (cost, scholarships available, location, etc.) from multiple websites.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
California Certificado de Docencia en Artes del lenguaje inglés
I am credentialed in the state of California to teach English and other related topics. I was trained in and have taught AVID, a college and career preparation course, to multiple grades. At 13, I started taking college classes at the local junior college at night after middle school. I graduated with my Associate's Degree less than 1 year after graduating from high school. I transferred to University of California, Davis where I received my Bachelor's Degree and have gone on to attend and graduate from two private universities. I have been where these students are with regard to figuring out what major to study and college to choose. I can help them know their options so they are prepared for this next chapter of their lives.
