This class is designed to provide an introduction to the basics of waves, an important concept in Physics. Many topics will be covered over this 5 week class that will give the student a basic understanding of the physics behind waves, to include physical waves, sound waves, light waves, and some unique and special waves. Students will have the opportunity to practice what they learn each week. Week 1: Introduction to Waves -> Video: Waves Introduction -> Fill in the blank note sheets for the video -> Practice problems: Wave terminology, calculating wave length and frequency Week 2: Transmission and Wave Media -> Video: Transmission of waves (absorption, reflection, refraction...etc.) -> Video: Different Media waves move through -> Fill in the blank note sheets for each video -> Practice problems: Differences between wave transmission terminology, Media effects on wave transmission Week 3: Sound Waves & Vibration -> Video: Sound Waves & Vibration -> Fill in the blank note sheets for the video -> Practice problems: Calculating pitch, vibration leading to sound, Doppler Effect Week 4: Light & Electromagnetic Waves -> Video: Light Waves -> Fill in the blank note sheets for the video -> Practice problems: Electromagnetic spectrum, calculating light wave data Week 5: Special Waves -> Video: Special waves (seismic, shock, sonic booms, gravitational waves) -> Fill in the blank note sheets for the video -> Practice problems: Application of each of these special waves This is a flexible schedule course, meaning that there are no live meetings. Each week, new videos, notes pages, and practice problems will be posted to the classroom. The completed practice problems will be uploaded to the classroom (either scanned or a picture taken) for feedback from the teacher. The teacher will also post recommended simple experiments (with video instructions) for each lesson that the students can perform to better understand the material with a hands on approach. There will be a discussion thread where students can ask for help from the class and the teacher. To get the most out of this course, the teacher will provide notes pages with blanks for the students to fill in as they watch the videos. Students are expected to complete the practice problems each week as the material builds upon itself weekly. The teacher is always be available via message (either in the classroom discussion or private message) and will typically reply within 12 hours, but never more than 24 hours unless extenuating circumstances.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will have a basic understanding of the basics of waves. This will prepare them for follow on courses in the realm of physics or other sciences.

3 Grado
Doctorado en Ingeniería (general) desde North Carolina State University
Maestría en Ingeniería Química desde Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Licenciatura en Química desde United States Military Academy
I have taught chemistry and chemical engineering at the college level, and have a PhD in nuclear engineering. I have been teaching all disciplines of science to home school elementary, middle and high school students for 12 years. I know how to present science in a fun way to boost students interest in the subject.
