Experiencia de clase

Learners in this ongoing class will meet weekly to learn all about the geologic processes that shape our earth. We will cover a broad range of geologic topics but also dive into the small details that make those processes significant.

Class topics and schedule will include:
Week of Monday, February 5,2024- Elements and the building block of minerals
Week of Monday, February 12, 2024- Minerals and how they form
Week of Monday, February 19, 2024- Mineral identification and classification
Week of Monday, February 28, 2024- Silicate Minerals
Week of Monday, March 4, 2024- Carbonate Minerals
Week of Monday, March 11, 2024- Native Elements
Week of Monday, March 18, 2024-Oxide Minerals
Week of Monday, March 25, 2024- Sulfide Minerals
Week of Monday, April 1, 2024- Halide Minerals
Week of Monday, April 8, 2024- Sulfate Minerals
Week of Monday, April 15, 2024- Phosphate Minerals
Week of Monday, April 22, 2024- Rock Cycle
Week of Monday, April 29, 2024- Sedimentary Rocks
Week of Monday, May 6, 2024- Metamorphic Rocks
Week of Monday, May 13, 2024- Igneous Rocks
Week of Monday May 20, 2024- Continental Drift
Week of Monday May 27, 2024- Seafloor Spreading
Week of June 3, 2024- Plate Tectonics
Week of June 10, 2024- Plate Tectonics lab
Week of June 17, 2024-Banded Iron Formation
Week of June 24, 2024- Shorelines
Week of July 1, 2024- Rivers

Please note that schedule is subject to change based on learner interest. Topics will continue to be added as content is completed. We will go through the whole range of geologic processes that cause mountain building, erosion and deposition, volcanic, and earthquake activity. The above list of topics is not exhaustive and learners will be able to come and go in class from one week to the next if needed.

In this class, we will complete some small lab activities. Most supplies will be household items but we will also use some food related items to demonstrate processes. As we approach the time for any activity, I will post a note in the classroom to notify parents of any materials. These labs will be optional and low cost.

Lessons will be presented via Nearpod and I will screen share the content so that learners do not have to create an account.

This course is learner led in that I give the students the opportunity to voice themselves in what they want to learn about and add those topics to our list when appropriate. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

I hope to see your learner in class soon!
