This is one in a series of stand alone phonics lessons that will focus on blending sounds to read CVC words with specific vowel sounds. In this lesson we will practice reading real words and nonsense words with the short /e/ sound. (jet, vet, hen, ten, kej, mev) Reading nonsense words allows the teacher to assess the student’s phonetic skill in blending. 

The teacher will model blending sounds and will incorporate magnetic letters, flash cards, and numerous other props to engage the learners. The students will have opportunities to blend sounds to read independently. If your child already knows most of the letters and sounds, they will be ready for this fun and interactive phonics class! 

After discussing the sound of short /e/ and practicing blending sounds to read short /e/ words, we will participate in a “Draw-Along,” to draw an elephant. *Disclaimer! I am not an artist and your child’s elephant will most likely look better than mine. It is all in fun and for the purpose of remembering the short /e/ sound. 

More “Short Vowel, Little Artist,” classes will be available focusing on the other vowel sounds. The student may enroll in any or all of these one time classes!
