Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 2 - 4
While the science of reading shows that all students learn best through multi-sensory instruction, it is crucial for students with dyslexia. In addition to my masters degree in reading education, I also have obtained my 60 hours of training in Orton Gillingham training. My goal is to not only help students become better readers, but to have fun and enjoy the process too! This class will adapt with each group of learners to ensure all children are making progress and staying engaged.

Please note that the skills and words used will be based on a 1st-3rd grade reading level.

Example Word List: peacock, crack, play, contain, grow, port, fern, pain, chart, dark, night, helmet, bedtime, explode
Example Skills: r controlled (er, ar, or), digraphs (sh, ch, th), vowel teams (ai, ay, oa, ow, igh), c vs k, k vs ck, diphthongs (oi, oy, ou, ow), syllable rules.

Each class will follow a similar routine. Learners will be shown a variety of words at the beginning of class that follow a specific spelling pattern. They will act as detectives to notice the spelling pattern themselves, before it is taught. This will engage their brain and help them get in the habit of noticing the letters and sounds within a word. Once the spelling pattern has been recognized, it will be explicitly taught and explained. Each class will focus on a new spelling rule.

The class size will remain small to allow me to provide each student with individual support throughout the class.

This class will be fast paced to keep students engaged, but will also be differentiated to ensure students are understanding the concepts.

Class Routine:
- quick ice breaker/introductions
- spelling pattern detectives
- explicit instruction of spelling rule
- practice reading words with spelling rule
- practice spelling words independently with support
- game time!

There is a possibility we will not have time to play the game in class. I will always provide the game after class for students to play/practice on their own. The game utilizes Quizziz, which allows me to voice record questions for the students so they can complete it independently.

Please note that the below skills are not necessarily in order of easiest to hardest nor are they are in the order they are typically taught in a private one on one tutoring session. Students performing at a higher level benefit from the review of previously learned skills, while students performing at a lower level benefit from being exposed to harder skills. I try to mix up the skills each week to ensure each student is engaged and feeling successful in each class. My questioning within the lesson will always be differentiated to met the needs of the students.
