Become a Better Reader This Summer!

Join us for an exciting 8-week journey where young learners will become experts on the key "rules" that most English words follow. This course will significantly boost students' reading and writing skills, preparing them for future success.

Before enrolling, students should:
- Know the names of all 26 letters
- Understand the sounds each letter makes
- Be able to blend letter sounds to read simple words

Course Structure:
1. Introduction to Reading Rules: Each week, we'll explore a new rule, breaking down and reconstructing words to understand their structure.
2. Interactive Learning: Students will engage with the rules through various reading and writing activities.
3. Real-World Application: Learners will be encouraged to identify words in their own readings that follow the rules discussed.

Topics Covered:
- Digraphs: Letters that work together to create a new sound (e.g., "sh" in "ship")
- Blends: Letters that combine while each retains its sound (e.g., "bl" in "black")
- The Doubling Rule: Doubling consonants at the end of words (e.g., "huff")
- Kept the Cap Rule: Deciding when to spell the /k/ sound with C or K (e.g., "cat" vs. "kit")
- Duck Honk Rule: Choosing between K or CK (e.g., "back")
- Word Families: Letter groups that produce common sounds (e.g., "-ing" in "ring")
- Rich Witch Rule: Spelling the /ch/ sound with CH or TCH (e.g., "catch")
- Contractions: Shortening two words into one (e.g., "don’t" from "do not")

Class Experience:
- Engaging Presentations: Each session is guided by a PowerPoint presentation to keep us on track.
- Multi-Sensory Learning: A mix of words, images, and videos enhances the teaching process.
- Interactive Discussions: Our classes are highly interactive, with plenty of conversation and Q&A between the teacher and students.
- Hands-On Activities: After learning a new topic, students complete group activities with the teacher's guidance, followed by independent practice.
- Personalized Pace: We move on to new topics based on each student's progress, ensuring a thorough understanding.
- Celebrating Achievements: Classes end with a fun activity to celebrate students' hard work and progress.
