La hora del cuento de Pete el gato: las 4 R: leer, recordar, volver a contar, recrear

Los estudiantes leerán una historia de Pete the Cat. Recordaremos la historia haciendo un "recorrido fotográfico", volveremos a contarla y recrearemos su parte favorita. El uso de la estrategia de las 4 R fomentará una mejor comprensión y retención de la historia.

In today's story time, the students will read Pete the Cat: Pete's Big Lunch.  After we read the story together, we will remember the story by doing a 'picture walk,' retell the story, and we will recreate their favorite part of the story with a Pete the Cat mask which will be provided.  The students can put the mask on if they choose to pretend to be Pete! Using the 4 R's strategy will foster better understanding and retention of the story.  The 4 R's strategy is easy to use and can be easily adapted to different texts and stories.

I will read the story using an animated voice.  During our 'picture walk' to remember the story, I will choose a student to help me remember details from the beginning, one or two students to help me remember the middle details of the story, and someone new to help me remember the ending of the story.  To end class, everyone can take turns to act out his/her own favorite part of the story to recreate a scene.

A  Moon mask is in the Class Files to cut out/color before class. 
A Popsicle stick or string to put the mask on will be needed if your child wants to make the mask.

Hello to All Parents!  

My name is Jennifer Rose and I have been a Kindergarten Teacher for the past 15 years in a private school in Massachusetts.  Before I taught Kindergarten, I taught mixed aged classrooms consisting of grades 1/2 and 3/4 in a school for Gifted and Talented Children. My classroom is my 'Home Away From Home.'  I am silly, energetic, and playful, yet I have been told that I have a calming effect on my students.  My little learners find my classroom their 'Home Away From Home' as well.
 
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Sociology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  I have an Early Childhood and Elementary Education teaching certificate in the state of MA, as well as a TESOL certificate.  I am currently in a Graduate Program at a local private college to get my M.ED.

I am the proud mother of teenage twin daughters!  They both are High Honors Students and I had the pleasure of being their Kindergarten Teacher.  Of course, I can't leave out my new baby, Jovie (Maltipoo puppy).  If I could teach her how to read, I would!  

Reading stories, playing Sight Word games, doing crafts, learning phonics, etc. while having great fun is what learning is all about!  I would be honored if your child took part in my online 'Home Away From Home.'
