Throughout this course, I will assess individual literacy profiles to determine student needs in the areas of spelling and decoding to support independence with spelling single syllable and multisyllabic words. The topics within the tutoring experience will be structured around student level. Below is a list of possible lesson topics, but these could change depending on areas of need. -Short vowels -Open syllables -The silent e syllable -R Controlled syllables -Long vowels -Vowel Diphthongs -Schwa -Prefixes and suffixes -Digraph blends -Initial and final blends Each session will be structured as following: 5 minute greeting/rapport building activity 15 minutes of explicit instruction including phoneme/grapheme mapping of words 15 minutes of guided practice (games, activities, and challenges to practice the skill) 10 minutes of independent practice Throughout each element of the tutoring session, students will engage with a variety of tools for learning, including but not limited to: games, challenges, story writing and reading, guided writing activities, and hands-on practice. As a teacher, I pride myself on taking time to get to know my students' interests and motivations to create a classroom environment that fosters intrinsic motivation to learn.
