Experiencia de clase

Combine art and poetry by compiling your very own collection of paintings, sketches and poems. It is not necessary to take any prior art classes in my Painting Poetry/Painted Poems series. You can continue adding to your collection by enrolling in any of my painting poetry classes (A.A. Milne, Edgar Allen Poe, Lewis Carroll, etc.).

During this course, we will meet weekly to discuss a poem, its writer and any pertinent background information. Students will be given the opportunity to share any thoughts or opinions on the poem, and may be called upon to share their ideas, either verbally or in the chat. We will then paint an image or scene; I will demonstrate my painting during class, but your learner may choose to paint something different! They can add these paintings in a journal to make a portfolio, or on loose paper or canvas.

Our paintings will focus on being inspired by the poem, so it is possible that every student's painting will be unique. At the end of this course, your student will have a portfolio of beautiful paintings and well-known works of literature!

During this 4-week course, students will consider the following poems:

Week 1: The Swan, by Rainer Maria Rilke (German)

Week 2: La Pobreza, by Pablo Neruda (Spanish)

Week 3: Le Temps A Laissé Son Manteau, by Charles D'Orleans (French)

Week 4: Frog Haiku by Matsuo Bashô (Japanese)

In addition to reading the poem in its original language and translated English, we will discuss its meaning and how we might transform the poem into a painting. If they like, students may choose to copy the poem in either its original language or English. This is a great writing exercise, especially since we focus on formatting and perfecting our handwriting to be decorative. This optional activity can be done offline, after class, so the student will not feel rushed.
Metas de aprendizaje
This course is a great way to introduce young learners to poetry and fine arts. Students who have taken classes in my Painting Poetry series may be familiar with the process of reading a poem and painting a scene inspired by the poem. This course is a longer series that will allow each student to progress alongside fellow classmates every week and to complete a portfolio of art!

My Painting Poetry with Watercolors classes have been so successful on Outschool that I have decided to compile them into a longer course for those who would like to complete a portfolio of their artwork. I enjoy teaching watercolor techniques to children, and love combining my love of poetry with my passion for fine art. If you would like a shorter trial version of this class, sign up for one of my Painting Poetry with Watercolors classes by clicking on my teacher profile!
