Experiencia de clase

Join us in this world of pure imagination. We will meet Willy Wonka, the eccentric owner of the most fantastic chocolate factory and his Oompa Loompahs. Mr Wonka runs a global contest offering the 5 lucky winners who find golden tickets in their chocolate bars the opportunity of a lifetime - the chance to have a tour of his famous chocolate factory and a lifetime supply of chocolate! We will meet the lucky winners, Augustus Glump, an obese, greedy boy; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a compulsive gum-chewer; Mike Teevee, a cowboy- loving kid obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, the hero, a poor, half-starved, honest, kind boy who deserves a break!

During the session I will instigate a discussion about various themes in the books including wealth and poverty, vices and karma.

We will consider various comprehension questions looking at characters, setting, plot, conflict, inferencing, and discuss key lessons learnt from this book.

To enrich the sensual enjoyment of this book discussion during the session we will make and indulge in some delicious, decadent, chocolate fudge.

The class will be highly interactive so students should read the book before the class (or see the movie) to be able to fully engage in the discussion.

I look forward to seeing you in class. I can’t wait to find out what you think of this unique page turner!

Note: Students are welcome to stay on after the discussion to eat and socialize after the class.
If your student cannot eat chocolate I have a recipe for Gourmet Caramel Apples they can follow instead.

If you can’t see a class time listed that works for you then please let me know what EST time you are interested in and I will see if I can make a class that fits your schedule.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about the book’s themes, conflict, symbols, motifs, study the characters, and identify the author’s key message. They will also learn how to make chocolate fudge.

Orientación para padres
We will discuss the vices of each of the children in the story. We will examine how Ronald Dahl uses the Oompa Loompahs songs to teach lessons relating to each of them. We will also look at how each child’s vice leads to their downfall. We will discuss who Roald Dahl blames for the children’s vices. The chocolate fudge cooking section just requires use of a microwave and microwaveable bowl. We will not use the main oven or stove. We will refrigerate the fudge to set it. There will not be any ingredients used to make this recipe other than the 3 listed below.

Hi, my name is Hayley, and I teach classes on film analysis & book appreciation, movie making and writing classes. I have worked in children’s book publishing and have studied film and literature for a number of years. I also used to be a Children's Party Entertainer so I know how to keep kids entertained! I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm with my students to help them develop a passion for books and films. I believe stories in all formats teach us so many valuable life lessons. I also hope to inspire your children to enjoy the creative writing process. I think writing is a skill that can help us to uncover our deep rooted beliefs and desires and that it can be deeply therapeutic. In my spare time I watch a lot of movies, read, write, cycle, dance, swim and enjoy spending time with my family.
