Join us for an exciting journey through the world of books and movies! In this book club, students will read a carefully selected novel before our first class meeting, where we will discuss the book’s themes, characters, plot, and writing style. Before the second session, students will watch the movie adaptation on their own or with family, preparing to analyze the differences and similarities between the two versions. Our class meets once per week to allow students time to finish the book and movie! The first week we will discuss the book, and the next week we will discuss the movie adaptation. During our discussions, we will explore why filmmakers make certain changes, what gets left out or added, and whether the movie captures the heart of the book. Students will debate what worked well, what they would change, and whether they preferred the book or movie version. Along the way, they’ll strengthen reading comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical skills, all while having fun with stories they love. Perfect for avid readers, young movie buffs, and curious thinkers, this book club makes reading exciting and interactive. Get ready for deep discussions, fun debates, and a chance to explore storytelling like never before! Here is the class schedule: Week 1 (March 30-April 5): BOOK- Wonder – R.J. Orientación para padres
While these books and films are widely recognized for their literary and artistic value, some contain themes that may require parental awareness, such as dystopian societies (The Giver, The Hunger Games), emotional challenges (Wonder), and conflict (The Outsiders). Discussions will focus on the moral lessons, character growth, and how filmmakers interpret written works for a visual audience.
Some books may contain themes and conflicts such as:
Violence & Conflict: Some books, such as The Hunger Games and The Outsiders, contain themes of violence, rivalry, and social unrest that may include physical confrontations and difficult moral dilemmas.
Emotional Themes: Books like Wonder deal with bullying, acceptance, and overcoming personal challenges related to appearance and health, which may be emotional or sensitive for some children.
Dystopian Themes: The Giver explores a controlled, emotionless society, and Holes deals with injustice and punishment, which may raise questions about authority and fairness.
We recommend parents review these books and films in advance, especially if you feel certain content may not be appropriate for your child. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or would like more information about specific content.
