Embark on an exciting journey into the Swedish language and culture with this interactive and beginner-friendly class! Throughout our time together, you’ll learn essential Swedish phrases, practice pronunciation, and explore fascinating cultural traditions.

We’ll start with greetings, learning how to say hello, ask someone how they are, and introduce yourself. You'll also dive into the Swedish alphabet, with a focus on mastering the unique letters Å, Ä, and Ö, as we practice pronunciation together. Along the way, we’ll explore the concept of fika, a cherished Swedish tradition of enjoying coffee, tea, and treats as a time to connect and relax.

You’ll also get creative by drawing a map of a room in your house and labeling it in Swedish. Through this activity, you’ll learn vocabulary for household items and placement words like "underneath" (under) and "next to" (bredvid).

As we progress, you’ll practice asking for and giving directions using a fictional town map—perfect for real-life situations like finding the grocery store (Var ligger mataffären?). Then, we’ll dive into family life, learning the Swedish names for family members like parents, siblings, and grandparents. You’ll also build sentences to describe your family, such as, “My dad’s name is Erik” (Min pappa heter Erik).

Sweden’s natural beauty will come to life as we explore Allemansrätten (The Right to Roam), a unique Swedish law allowing everyone to enjoy the outdoors. You’ll also learn about forest animals and use your new vocabulary to write a short story inspired by the magical Swedish wilderness.

Finally, we’ll head to the store! Practice asking for food, learning prices, and discover iconic Swedish dishes like falukorv and prinsesstårta. You’ll also get an introduction to the Swedish currency, the krona, to complete your cultural experience.

By the end of this class, you’ll have a strong foundation in Swedish and a deeper appreciation for the country’s language, traditions, and way of life. Whether you’re planning to visit Sweden or simply love learning about new cultures, this class will inspire and prepare you for your Swedish adventure!

The student doesn't need to know any Swedish in beforehand but has to be willing to participate in class and say the letters, words or phrases. To get the most out of the class it is important to practice in between the classes.
