Experiencia de clase

Origami is amazing! It is beautiful to look at and has benefits that may surprise you.

Think about an airbag. It has to be folded into a small space. A flat piece of cardboard is quickly transformed into a pizza box, ready to transport your meal home. These are a couple of examples of why knowing how to fold help us in our everyday life.
Regarding school subjects, origami helps with math ( like Geometry and fractions), thinking skills, problem solving, and science (like bridges and shapes of molecules).

This ongoing class allows learners to practice skills they have learned, from intermediate to advanced, in a relaxed environment with calming music.
Each class will be one of the following themes:
-Land
-Air
-Sea

I will teach them how to fold a different creation each time we meet based on the theme.
I encourage students to bring a pre-folded creation, based on that week's theme, to briefly share with the group at the beginning of class.
All students can choose to show their completed projects near the end of class.
Students will be able to ask questions as needed.
We will also discuss potential ideas for the following week's model.

Please note: This ongoing class is geared towards learners who have basic experience with origami. If your learner is unfamiliar with basic origami folds, they will likely find this class to be too challenging.

If your child would like to be part of this club and has no previous experience with origami, I recommend taking my one-time class for "Getting Started With Origami: 5 Basic Origami Folds" before joining this club.

Lista de útiles escolares
Learners will need square, thin paper. Having several pieces of paper will be helpful in case a fold doesn't go right and they need to start over.
Origami paper is recommended and can be purchased online or at most craft stores.
You can also cut your own squares of printer paper, notebook paper, etc. Try to have paper that is thin, as thick paper like cardstock may be difficult to fold.

Hi!
Welcome to my classroom.

I love playing music. I play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, dulcimer, and recorder. I've played in many bands over the years, and my wife and I write music together.

I have enjoyed folding origami since I was a teenager. When I was in high school, my parents had me decorate the Christmas tree exclusively with gold and silver foiled origami stars and angels. Even today, it gives me something to do in any situation since there is usually a piece of paper or napkin lying around.

I have been teaching our children music for the past 3 years as part of our homeschooling. I also teach them origami, math, coding, science, knot tying, and fire building. I supplement with Minecraft to make these subjects fun.

I am a huge advocate of the "9 Intelligences." My approach to teaching is that everyone is an excellent learner in the way they are "wired" to learn. I try to discover their way and use it to teach my students.

I have a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Fun fact: My family and I play music at nursing homes for those residents that are unable to experience the community.

I look forward to seeing you in class!
