Seguridad en línea: redes sociales, depredadores en línea y consecuencias en el mundo real

95% of teens have access to the internet and with that access comes certain dangers that they need to be aware of.

In this class we will look at actual statistics of online predators who target minors. I will provide information provided by the FBI on how teens can keep themselves safe on the internet, red flags they need to be aware of, and when they should reach out for help.

We will discuss cyber bullying, the various forms that it might happen in and the legal ramifications that may occur if they participate in it. We will discuss the increase in teen suicides specifically related to social media and cyber bullying.

While this class does focus on "heavy" topics, I always remind the students that they need to be cautious on the internet, but not fearful. This class is designed to empower students and help them develop a healthy relationship with social media, technology and unlimited access to the internet. 

Although we will be discussing statistics, I will not be providing students any sort of counseling regarding suicide or encounters with online predators. This class is meant to give students facts so they can make their own decisions. If a student does share information regarding either one of those topics, the parents will be notified so they can address it at home. 

This class is not meant to replace the rules and guidelines of parents, rather to reinforce them! By providing statistics, this should help teens understand certain restrictions they may have.
