New Spring 2025 Semester! Join us weekly to explore English literature through poetry. The poets and poetic styles will be introduced according the schedules below. NOTE: Students are welcome to enter at any point. The cycle will restart every 16 weeks and students can continue through the cycle until they've studied each lesson. Please check the sections available. I have several sections throughout the week. The lessons will be in the following order: Week of February 3: ee cummings and Free Verse poetry Week of February 10: Matsuo Basho and Haiku Week of February 17: Dylan Thomas and Villanelle Week of February 24: Geoffrey Chaucer and Early Poetry (Gilgamesh, Canterbury Tales) Week of March 3: Robert Browning and Ballads Week of March 10: Christopher Marlowe and Odes & Pastorals Week of March 17: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Narrative Verse Week of March 24: Lewis Carroll and Nonsense Verse Week of March 31: Edward Lear and Humorous Poetry Week of April 7: Robert Frost and Repetition, Anaphora, Refrain Week of April 21: Emily Dickenson and Internal Rhyme, Near Rhyme Week of April 28: Alfred Lord Tennyson and Consonance & Alliteration Week of May 5: Edgar Allen Poe and Onomatopoeia Week of May 12: William Blake and Personification & Apostrophe Week of May 19: Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Simile
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will become familiar with well-known poets from English and American literature. They will be able to identify various poetic devices such as rhyme scheme, metaphor, simile, type of poetry (free verse vs fixed form), shape poetry, and sonnets.

Students will receive worksheets to help guide them through the weekly lesson. They will be posted in the classroom prior to the meeting. They should have it available with a pencil during class.
