Come explore the Ancient World through visual, multimedia lectures and discussions. Each week we will focus on a new aspect of the Ancient World, moving through different regions of the world. Together, we will discover the Stone Age, the revolutionizing impact of farming on human existence, the beginning of civilization, the Ancient Civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Africa, Greece, India, China, and Rome. Taken from beginning to end, this course offers a complete year of middle school history. All of my courses use visual and image rich slides with lecture notes to help visual learners follow along. I also, when appropriate, use short videos to bring the topic to life. ***Optional Project Based Learning: Each week I will post an optional project in the classroom along with possible images/video links to extend learning. Those who choose to complete projects will be able to share theirs in the virtual classroom. ***Optional Extended Learning: I will also often post Nearpod Activities in the classroom after each class for students who would like to take their learning further. If you start the class late, don't worry! Each class topic is introduced independently. In addition, for anyone who starts late, when the 25 weeks are up, I will start the course over which will allow learners who began late to cover some missed topics. Beginning September 12th (topics by week- 25 weeks of history!!!) 1. The Paleolithic Age 2. The Neolithic Age 3. The Sumerians 4. The Akkadians, Assyrians, & Babylonians 5. As much of our educational material printed in this country is not written in an OwnVoices manner, I make sure to always include multimedia recordings/ videos of scholars and archeologists from the culture we are discovering representing themselves and their own cultures and histories.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been teaching both World History and American History to Middle Schoolers and Elementary aged kids for about 6 years now. History is my passion and I have traveled the world, visiting many ancient and neolithic sites, studying and working with local historians, and writing. I have worked with archivists and read hundreds of first hand accounts of war, famine, and every day experiences of the old ways of life from baking bread to making soap. It has also been my ongoing education to voraciously read history books, both of ancient history, and most importantly, newly written historical commentaries that look at and analyze our previously written histories with an intention to decolonize the way we view history.
