This class is designed based on the National Narrative 4 program. Students feel alone in the world at times. They feel issues they may be experiencing are not felt by others; which exasperates the feelings of loneliness. By creating a safe place for sharing stories while another student listens, will allow students to realize they are not alone and there are strangers who experience similar situations; thus, creating empathy. Empathy drives us to a connection with others.

The class is set up where one student will open up to the others about something that has affected them in some way. Some examples may include:
   * A story about a moment or experience when something had a huge impact on your life.
   * An embarassing moment
   * A time when you felt despair, but then hope
   * A time when you felt you were in danger
   * A time in your life when you felt complete happiness
   * A time in your life when you overcame a fear

The student will share any information on who, what, when, why and how it makes/made them feel. While the student is talking, the other students are actively listening. They are not talking, just listening. Then, when the student is done sharing their story, the another student will share the story they just heard as if it had happened to them. In other words, another student will tell the story in first person.

This class is not designed to be therapuetic. This class is designed to allow students to be heard while others listen. There is no response to the stories being told. It is to purely listen and retell the story in the group as if it happened to you. This class is designed to show each other no matter where someone lives, what background they have, who they are, or when they were born that we all experience similar feelings and are not alone. If at any time, I, as the facilitator feel a student needs more assistance than what this class is designed for, I will reach out to the student and/or parents.

My role will be the facilitator. I will monitor the story telling and listening and assure each student is 100% respected, has a voice, and maintains the dignity of all students participating. I will assure no response in any therapuetic way is given. The students will be taught they can only respond with, "I am sorry you went through that." or "I am happy you are happy." There will be no comments made in ways that could be construed as theraputic, just empathetic.

At the beginning of each class, the class expectations will be discussed. There is no actual topic each week, however prompts may be given to allow for choices. The students enrolled will direct the conversations. This class is designed to enter the class at any point in the ongoing process. Because each week, the class is designed for new conversations based on what each student wishes to share, there is no need to define the class by week.

Through these weekly exchanges, the goal is to motivate students to make positive changes in their personal lives and the communities in which they live.

There will be stories about people who have been killed. There will be stories about the people doing the killing. There are stories where people are assaulted, sometimes sexually.
