In this ongoing class, we will build on the fundamentals of math learned in grades K-2nd. Because this is an ongoing class, each week will present a new lesson that does not build on previous weeks. This is a year long course that is a great option for families who need a more flexible schedule. *I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent learners as a teacher and a mom, and am happy to work with you/them to ensure that they have an enjoyable class experience.* I like to engage the class in a discussion so I can assess where they are in their understanding of the concepts. I always try to get every learner involved in the class, and will encourage even the most shy students to participate at their own comfort level. In each class we will start with an ice breaker/show and tell, and then I will teach a short lesson on the current topic. We will use manipulatives, word problems, drawing, writing, and discussion to practice the concepts. I will give each child the chance to participate and demonstrate their understanding. We play a Kahoot review game during the last class of each week. HOMEWORK: I provide optional homework once a week. **I am happy to check students' individual homework and provide feedback if they show their work, take a picture of it, and send it to me in the classroom or via email.** KAHOOT AND GIMKIT GAMES We will play review games every week on Kahoot and Gimkit. I will share a clickable link in chat and you will simply type in the game code that I give you to join the game. These games are super fun and easy to learn. If you have a separate device like a phone or iPad, it would be helpful, but you can also use the same device you are using for Outschool. Hello! My name is April Moser, and I am a former 6th grade classroom teacher, specializing in math. I live in Virginia, USA, near Washington, D.C.
In 2006 I earned a Masters Degree in Education, and went on to teach upper elementary school, focusing on math at all levels. Since having my own children, I have moved to online teaching, and have taught over 500 students online in the last few years!
I have always enjoyed math, and I have created a lot of classes that make learning math more exciting for the students. Each of our brains work differently, and that is the foundation on which I build my lessons. In class, if there are three ways to solve a problem, we will try them all! That way, your learner has a much better chance of understanding and grasping the concept.
We play Kahoot and Gimkit games to get the kids excited about reviewing concepts, and I am always available to answer questions when needed.
I look forward to meeting and working with your learner!
