In this one to one private tutoring class, we can specifically address any areas of concern in reading, spelling, and writing skills. This multisensory session taught using Orton Gillingham methodology, will cater to your child's specific struggles by filling in any potential gaps in their language skills. I aim to make the session fun, engaging and enjoyable, while helping to build the young reader's confidence and abilities. Together we will explore and learn core competencies in reading, writing, and spelling using a multisensory, structured, phonetic approach. Concepts covered will be specific to the student. Common topics covered will be: - Vowel and Consonant concepts and their sounds/uses - Blends and Digraphs - Vowel Teams - Closed and Open Syllable concepts - Grammar concepts; nouns, verbs, adverbs etc. - Sight Word concept and common sight words - Printing and Handwriting practice - Reading Fluency - Spelling Practice - Expanding on Syllable types and their importance

Please have available a small whiteboard with both black and read dry erase markers. Also a tactile object to use for multisensory tracing such as a bowl of dry rice, macaroni, sand, or even a towel or piece of fabric. A set of blank index cards is helpful for students to create their own practice cards during each session.

I have been a certified Orton Gillingham Reading Therapist for over 30 years now, and still find every day spent teaching to be fun and rewarding! Each student is unique and has their own inherent strengths. I enjoy discovering what those strengths are, and using that knowledge to assist students in their areas of difficulty. This multisensory method of teaching means that each lesson is interactive, fun, and creative, leading to greater memory retention for the student. It brings me great joy to see a formerly discouraged student become engaged and confident in their abilities, sparking a love of learning. My current role as the director of a successful Orton Gillingham learning centre for 15 years, has provided me such valuable experience evaluating, teaching, and planning for students of all ages, stages, and abilities.
