Nivel Beginner - Advanced
This class will follow the Alfred and/or Faber Piano Adventures Piano Methods along with supplemental materials for intermediate and advanced learners. Learners will benefit from two views of the piano, one of the instructor and the keyboard, and one overhead view of the keys for easier learning. The class will run as follows:

Week 1 6/10/24: Students will explore/get to know their piano or keyboard. We will identify Middle C, how to place the fingers in the C 5 finger scale and discuss groups of black keys and how they help us identify the notes on the piano. We will also review finger numbers 1-5. Students will play a beginning song such as "C-D-E-F-G March" which will help them to identify their first notes, C through G.

Week 2 6/17/24: Students will review the notes from the previous class, C through G. We will discuss higher and lower notes and how to tell from the sheet music if the notes go up (higher) or down (lower). We will continue to review finger numbers and the C 5 finger scale through short songs.

Week 3 6/24/24: Depending on progress so far, students will move away from sheet music labeled with the note letters and begin identifying notes on the music staff. We will discuss the staff including bass clef and treble clef and how to tell which hand to use for each clef (treble clef, right hand, higher notes - bass clef, left hand, lower notes). Students will learn about line and space notes and how to identify middle C and treble G on the staff.

Week 4 6/24/24: Students will review short music pieces using notes C and G, and learn the additional note bass F. We will discuss more about the bass clef, its origin and how to find note bass F on the staff. Students will combine all 3 notes learned so far (C, G, and F) to play the song "My Invention."
