Nivel Beginner - Intermediate
Dive into the eerie and fascinating world of classic fairy tales as they were originally told by the Brothers Grimm and other storytellers. This course explores the dark, mysterious, and often unsettling origins of familiar stories before they were softened for modern audiences. Through in-depth analysis and creative activities, students will uncover the true essence of these timeless tales and understand their cultural and historical significance. Each week, we will discuss the stories we've read. Learners are expected to read the story before class meets. They can take notes over the story and bring any questions they may have to class. We will go over three to five reading comprehension questions for the first few minutes of class, then we will begin our deep dive and analysis. When we gather, I will have prepared questions that not only allow us to explore the story, but deeply analyze it. Some weeks, we may also have a writing or drawing activity in class. I love letting learners get creative whenever possible :). The PDF for each story will be posted in the classroom, as will an audiobook from YouTube, when available. Week of June 10- The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen (all 7 stories in the fairytale) Week of June 17- Hansel and Gretel Week of June 24- Little Red Riding Hood Week of July 1- The Little Mermaid Week of July 8- Bluebeard Week of July 15- Week of July 22- Cinderella Week of July 29- The Juniper Tree ***Break*** Week of September 15- Rapunzel Week of September 22- The Dead Witch Future topics to be added/updated with learner requests.
