D. B. Cooper is the name given to an unidentified person who hijacked a plane on Thanksgiving Eve in 1971. He requested, and was given, a large ransom then parachuted from the plane. This case is still unsolved. No one knows if he survived the jump or his true identity.

In this class, we will discuss the case that has stumped the FBI for 50 years and explore various theories, in regards to his identity and fate, that have been presented over the years.

Class will begin with a discussion on what it means to respectful- to each other and to the victims. Please note that dark and difficult topics are often approached from a humorous standpoint. The class will kept lighthearted and humor is more than acceptable, though it must remain respectable.

Learners will then state what they know about the crime. They are more than welcome to do some research before class and present it. We will discuss the hijacking, escape, suspects, and theories. I will present a slideshow with background information, events, facts, and theories. We will pause after each event to discuss it before moving on. At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to continue the discussion on a thread in the classroom.

We will discuss theories and suspects including but not limited to:

-Cooper did not survive the jump
-Barbara Dayton
-Robert Rackstraw
-Lynn Doyle Cooper
-Duane Weber
-Other student theories
Metas de aprendizaje
-Students will refine critical thinking skills.
-Students will use evidence to criticize and support theories.
-Students will work on public speaking skills with learners who share the same interests.
-Students will explore their imaginations.
