Important Notes: All of my classes are inclusive. Classes are suitable for the neurodiverse child. For learns ages 6 - 18. CEFR: B1-B2 and above. This class is not a full immersion class and there will be some English used as needed. No pre-requisites. Teacher will do her best to accommodate changing family schedules. Class may be structured in different formats to accommodate parent's requests, so the entire course can be completed in an intensive/academic mode, or at a nice & easy pace as an additional educational enrichment. SYLLABUS: In this course, Learner will: Learn Basic Level Spanish following the lesson plans detailed below and with the support of a PowerPoint for visual learning convenience; In addition to the weekly vocabulary specific to the lesson plan, new nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and other grammatical elements of the language will be introduced with Learner being able to start creating whole sentences using the infinitive and/or simple present tense, developing the ability to enjoy simple conversations surrounding different topics; Each weekly class begins with a review of the previous class and a cultural highlight. Lesson Plans: Week # 1. "Hola!" - Introduction of Highlights of Spain: Geography, history dating back 36,000 years ago to modern day, including how the language was born, evolved, and how it was brought to other countries making it one of the top most spoken languages in the world, including a few true and friendly cognate words; Week #2. To be polite - List of polite greetings and phrases for making new friends; Week #3. The Spanish Alphabet - phonetic foundations, accents, introduction to basic Spanish grammar; verb "to learn, to pronounce"; Week #4. To Be - the infinitive and irregular present tense of the verb to be, "ser" (with Spanish having two different forms for this verb, "ser" y "estar"); pronouns; names and adjectives, who is it? Week #5. My Family - the regular -ar ending verb "to love" (with Spanish having two different forms for this verb, "amar, querer"); Week #6. My Body & Clothes - the infinitive and irregular present tense of the verb "to have", what is it? Week #7. Entertainment - A Day at the Beach, the regular present tense of the verb "to walk, to swim"; Week #8. What Color Is It? - Colors & Flowers/Shapes, regular present tense of the verb "to draw"; Week #9. What time is it? - Numbers; infinitive form of the verb "to count", "to tell time"; Week #10. How is the Weather? - The 12 Months and 4 Seasons, regular present tense of the verb "to enjoy"; Week #11. Seven Days of the Week - regular present tense of the verbs "to work and to rest", careers; Week #12. My House - the irregular present tense of the verb "to be" "estar"; Week #13. The Living Room - regular present tense of the verb "to talk/to speak/to listen"; Week #14. The Kitchen - regular present tense of the verb "to cook"; Week #15. The Dining Room - regular present tense of the verb "to eat"; Week #16. My Bathroom -regular present tense of the verb "to clean"; Week #17. My Bedroom - irregular present tense of theverb "to sleep"; Week #18. Playing in the Backyard with Family Pets and Friends - ; verb "to play"; Week #19. My Neighborhood - verb "to know"; Week #20. My School and Class Subjects - verb "to learn, to like"; Week #21. The Mediterranean Diet of Spanish Cuisine - including different foods; verb "to enjoy, to like"; Week #22. Ordering Food at the Restaurant - verb "to order"; Week #23. Ordering Beverages at the Restaurant - verb "to drink"; Week #24. Ordering Desserts at the Restaurant - verb "to like"; Week #25. Friendly Cognates - Expand your Vocabulary & Reading Understanding with List of Friendly Cognates; Week #26. Beware of List of False Cognates; Week #27. The Farm Animals - regular verbs ending in "er": "to eat, to drink" Week #28. The Farm Animals continued - regular verbs ending in "er": "to lay eggs, to run" Week #29. Nature Theme - Yellowstone National Park or Ocean to be Chosen by Learner - or Final Review, TBD as needed Week #30. Final Review, Q&A, and Graduation Celebration Additional sections of 30 Lesson Plans may be added per parent/learner's requests. Further lesson plans will expand on vocabulary and grammar (verbs, conjugations, prepositions, and other grammatical elements). Lesson plans will be learner-directed to meet child's interests and inspire engagement (for example, national parks, the ocean, travel, etc.). Class will be taught in an interactive, student-centered way. Teacher reserves her right to modify the syllabus for this course to best meet child's individualized learning interests. Flexibility: Teacher will do her best to accommodate changing family schedules. Class may be structured in different schedules to accommodate parent's request, either once, twice, 3 or 5 times per week, so the entire course can be completed in an intensive mode, or nice & easy as an additional educational enrichment. Parents may also select a few specific lesson plans to prepare for travel (for example lesson plans #1, 24, 25 and 26). For gauging Learner's interest level and to be able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is open communication and a sense of mutual engagement with the material.

Required: Child will need a notebook, pencil and color pencils to write down the words being learned and for the learning activities involving drawing/coloring. Recommended: Child may want to have flashcards, a flashcard file with ABC dividers, a notebook, pencil and color pencils to write down the new vocabulary, and for the learning activities which include drawing & coloring. At the end of this course, learner may have created their own Spanish book, drawings included - a fine creation to be proud of!
