"How wonderful it is to be able to write someone a letter! To feel like conveying your thoughts to a person, to sit at your desk and pick up a pen, to put your thoughts into words like this is truly marvelous." Haruki Murakami (Norwegian Wood)

Every person deserves the confidence, the skill, and the joy of writing letters. Old-Fashioned Letter Writing for Very Modern People: The How and the Why is a one-time class specially created to give every learner the opportunity to learn to skillfully write letters the proper way to forever make lasting connections with those near and dear, far and wide.

Writing letters by hand can also result in increased academic achievement. According to researchers at UCLA and Princeton, learners who take notes by hand are more likely to retain information than those who type notes resulting in enhanced memory, creativity, and brain power. Letter writing can move learners in the direction of writing notes by hand.

In a world that often moves too fast via the flying fingers of social media, handwritten letter writing is making a resurgence for the best reasons possible. The act of writing letters is an ordered, contemplative act enhancing organizational skills, boosting creativity, expanding vocabulary, and nurturing long term friendships and connection with family. The ability to craft a proper, beautiful letter is an important step towards writing excellent essays and short stories and essential for everyone as they move towards college and the work world.

Old-Fashioned Letter Writing for Very Modern People will focus on the following:

Exploring why Letter Writing is valuable in the Modern World
The Storied History of Letter Writing
Kinds of Letters--How and Why to Write them
The Best Equipment for Writing
The Proper Style of a Letter

This class, and all my classes, are limited to 6 students for maximum participation to give all students a voice in the classroom.

Moreover, optional writing assignments, with specially-created at home activities, games, and ideas, will be provided after class as well to give learners the opportunity both to enhance creative writing and further enhance their letter writing skills for every and always.

As anyone who has had handwritten letter with their name on it drop through the mail slot knows, there is nothing quite like holding a letter that is sent to you and for you, written with care and attention. Everyone deserves to receive letters, everyone deserves to know how to write them.
