In this self paced class, learners will read John Steinbeck's classic novella: 'Of Mice and Men'. Learners will also discuss the time period when the text was written in order to gain an understanding of the motivations and conflicts the characters have. Learners will be encouraged to think and write about the social issues that the characters face and make comparisons to today's social climate. As with all my classes, this course involves multiple cross-curriculum content and learners will not only dissect the story's literary elements but also American history and politics that influenced Steinbeck's writing. I will provide learners with an extensive study guide to go along with the readings and the pre recorded videos provide possible interpretations to the written response questions.

Otros detalles
Orientación para padres
"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck contains mature themes and language, including racial slurs and violence, making it more suitable for middle school students and above. Parents should discuss the historical context of the language and treatment of characters with disabilities or of different races before reading. The novel's ending involves ethical dilemmas around euthanasia that could be upsetting or thought-provoking, providing an opportunity to explore complex moral issues. While valuable for its literary and historical insights, it requires careful guidance to handle its sensitive content appropriately.
