In this stimulating and educational course, your child will journey through the rich tapestry of myths, legends, and sacred stories that have been instrumental in shaping human civilizations around the world.

This class is designed to engage your child's imagination, while imparting valuable knowledge about the interconnectivity of culture, geography, biology, and societal values.

Storytelling has been an essential part of our shared human experience for generations. It has shaped our understanding of the world around us, defined our cultural identities, and inspired countless generations. The tales of mythical beasts, legendary heroes, and sacred truths have not just captivated our minds but have also influenced societal norms and values. Our class explores this rich tradition, understanding it not only as a means of entertainment but as a powerful educational tool.

In 'Myths and Legends,' we travel from the icy realms of Norse mythology to the sun-kissed lands of Greek legends, from the lofty peaks of Himalayan lore to the rich savannahs of African tales, and much more. As we navigate these tales, students learn about different cultures, their unique traditions, social structures, and inherent beliefs.

Further, we intertwine this learning with the diverse geographies of the world. Your child will understand how the landscape and climate of a region have influenced the stories born from those places. They will learn how the harsh deserts, dense jungles, vast oceans, and freezing tundra are not just settings for our tales, but important characters in them.

No legend is complete without its mythical beasts or sacred animals. As part of this course, students will delve into the fascinating world of biology. They will learn about real animals that inspired mythical creatures, understanding their unique traits, behaviors, and habitats, further fostering a love for the natural world.

Through 'Myths and Legends,' we aim to engage, educate, and inspire your child. This unique class creates a holistic learning environment, utilizing the power of stories to instill in your child a deeper appreciation for world cultures, geography, and biology. They will leave the course not only with a treasure trove of fascinating tales to share but also a broadened worldview and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our world.

For example a class on the story Anansi the Spider would include:

1. We will first introduce ourselves and have a little time to talk about how our week is going.

2. Learning about the Ghanian culture: music, geography, dance, food and animals

3. Next I will read out the story, accompanied by pictures to help understanding.

4.Finally, we will talk about what we thought about the story. (Most traditional stories have a lesson included, we will discuss the students thoughts on the story).

5. Class finishes with a few questions on what we have learnt!

Orientación para padres
Occasionally a story may have some aspects such as death, a battle, etc. As these are Myths and Legends the stories tend to hold the full spectrum of life on earth within them. However, I ensure things are NEVER gratuitous though.

Growing up in the UK as a minority, I have always studied the non-mainstream perspectives where-ever I could, meaning in all my degree subjects (Philosophy, History & Psychology), I have thoroughly studied different cultural perspectives, and when teaching ensure all my sources are directly from the culture in question.

I have tutored and home schooled in my degree subjects for ages 4-18, taught in schools in my native country the Gambia, and nannies a (ages 0-11). Often questions around cultural differences or equality issues have come up and I am able to handle them softly, while ensuring the student leaves with the knowledge that equality is important for us all!

I am well-traveled, and love to explore new perspectives in my personal life!
