We will then read three modern mysteries that continue on the legacies of the great detectives. We will read Enola Holmes and a new Nancy Drew book.

Students will be able to compare and contrast stories, author background, and times to see how the mystery story has evolved.

Students will start the class by discussing what a detective is and how the career started off and what a modern detective is like.
Students will also compare what it is like to be a British Detective vs an American Detective.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.

I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.

My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.

My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
