Before they share it, they’ll answer clue questions selected by the teacher. These clues will be literacy based. Examples: the letter it starts with, what it rhymes with, how many syllables, etc. Clue questions are assigned ahead of time so students are fully prepared. We will sometimes choose a theme for object choice such as, winter, spring, Valentine’s, etc. After the class guesses, your student will tell about their object and why they chose it! The purpose of this class is to learn and strengthen early literacy and social skills. Background:
I received my bachelor’s degree in special education and my master’s degree in reading. I am certified in early childhood education, mild-moderate disabilities, severe/profound disabilities, and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I taught in public schools for 12 years. I taught prek, kindergarten, 1st-3rd students with learning disabilities, and middle school students with learning disabilities.
I left the classroom to start my own reading tutoring business. I now solely tutor students in reading and teach on Outschool.
Philosophy:
I follow Science of Reading practices. I use a phonological awareness and phonics scope and sequence when instructing students. Lessons are customized to their reading needs.
I believe in play based, hands-on, multi-sensory learning. My primary goal is for students to have fun so they never feel like learning to read is a chore. I believe the ability to read is the most important thing. It opens doors, takes us on adventures, and provides us unlimited knowledge.
What I Teach:
I offer phonics classes for elementary students, book clubs for secondary students, and individual reading tutoring.
