*Dates and books are listed below.* Students do not have to read every book in the series to enjoy their experience in this book club. Each book by Dan Gutman is unique and fun! In fact, students can join the group in the middle of any and every book and still have fun! We will spend three weeks on each book (four weeks for Fast Facts). Students will read an average of 3-4 chapters (about 35 pg) at home each week, and I'll provide 'think about it' questions to help them make connections while they read. During class time, we'll have fun discussing what's happening in the story; the characters, their actions, and the reasons for their actions. I'll also provide a list of optional, at-home activities for the students to complete each week. Activities may include illustrations, writing, research, and simple projects that are in line with what we're reading. I encourage kids to choose one to share. It's fun! **In the event a student is behind in a book or joins the group mid-book, that's okay! We discuss a variety of topics related to the stories and characters, so kids can have fun, even if they haven't read a single page! *Tuesdays* MY WEIRD SCHOOL SPECIALS 1/7, 1/14, 1/21 - Hip, Hip Hooray! The main character in this book is AJ. He has a negative attitude towards school. He "hates" school and thinks it's unnecessary. He uses words like hate, dumb, and stupid. However, he really is a nice boy! There are sample pages available to read before purchasing any of the My Weird School books or enrolling in this book club.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I'm offering this book club, because I know boys and girls enjoy characters who make mistakes and sometimes behave badly. As a reading tutor and mentor, I've listened to students read and get excited about the My Weird School series. We laughed at AJ, but we also discussed his attitude towards school, his teachers, and his peers. We debated whether or not some of his views were valid and how they affected what happened in the story. We will have fun doing the same in this book club. I believe students can learn a lot from AJ, his friends, and the wacky staff at Ella Mentry School!
