Welcome Musical Fans! Every week in this ongoing class, we will discuss a popular movie musical, ranging from classics to today and everything in-between. Film viewings will take place outside of class time. All films listed will be available for purchase or rental on popular digital platforms such as Amazon or iTunes, or for streaming on popular platforms such as Netflix or Hulu, for purchase on DVD or Blu-Ray, or free checkout at your local library. We will discuss characters and songs throughout the musical, composers, plot elements, musical themes, interesting cameos, Easter eggs, and our favorite and least favorite characters, scenes, etc. Using apps such as Just Watch make it easy to see what is streaming and available on different platforms. If you have any trouble finding the movie please let me know ahead of class so I can help you. I recommend that parents look up each movie on commonsemsemedia.com before allowing sensitive students to view the movies. These movies contain violence, death, dark themes, language, etc. It is the parents' responsibility to ensure these movies are developmentally appropriate for their children. Each lesson stands on its own, so students are free to take as many or as few lessons in this series as they like. For each class: Students will watch the movie on their own before class. In class, we will: - Introduce ourselves - Discuss the main character(s) and other major and minor characters. -Discuss the main songs and musical themes in the movie. -Compare and contrast other versions if there are any. -Discuss the composer of the songs and any connections or interesting facts. -Talk about favorite/least scenes, songs, characters, and events, etc. -Discuss the impact of the musical on modern music - Student driven discussion Discussion Schedule: Week 1: The Sound of Music Week 2: Westside Story (any version) Week 3: The Muppets (2011) Week 4: Across the Universe Week 5: Annie (any version) Week 6: Phantom of the Opera (2004) Week 8: Pitch Perfect Week 9: Grease Week 10: Labyrinth Week 11: Sweeny Todd Week 12: In the Heights Week 13: Mama Mia Week 14: Cats Week 15: Les Misérables Week 16: The Greatest Showman Week 17: Mulan Rouge Week 18: Mary Poppins (any version) Week 19: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Week 20: Pitch Perfect Grab the Snacks and enjoy!

Hello Parents and Learners- and welcome to my online learning space! My name is Edin and I am a singer and musician. I have dedicated most of my life to learning about music and the voice.
I have a B.A. in vocal performance from the University of New Mexico. Over the past ten years, I have enjoyed singing as a paid Soprano section leader at a local cathedral, as well as several other professional choirs. These positions have given me the opportunity to sing in some of the most wonderful spaces around the world. I have also had the opportunity to teach many children’s choirs, both in academic and private settings. In addition to singing professionally, I also spent much of my college life working as a nanny, where I was able to engage in lots of creative projects incorporating music, art, nature, and technology. I have taught ESL and Music online for the last seven years.
I absolutely love teaching voice, piano, and ukulele, and have been giving private lessons for the last twelve years. Throughout my journey, I have taught many students from all levels and backgrounds. I believe it is important for learning to take place in a safe and welcoming environment, so students are not only free to be themselves, but also free to make mistakes and experiment with their instruments. Learning styles and special interests are always considered when planning classes as I engage students in activities that allow them to be creative, confident, flexible, and work cooperatively with others.
When I’m not teaching, most of my time is spent gardening, crafting, cooking, and making music with my husband and two kids. We love spending time in the sunshine with our chickens or watching a good movie with our two cuddly cats.
I am so excited to meet your learners and help them grow creatively. See you in the Classroom!
