In this fast-paced introduction to music theory we will cover the basics of music notation, intervals, scales, and chords. This course is designed for any student who wishes to gain a better understanding of music in the western classical tradition. This course will also build the foundational knowledge of music theory necessary for students who wish to continue their studies at the college level. Instruction will be a combination of lecture with slides, listening examples, and assignments to practice the topics covered in the video lectures.

Music Notation

In this lesson, we will explore how notes interact. We will listen to musical examples and learn to measure the distance between notes known as the interval. This knowledge will prepare us for the study of scales and chords in the next classes. 2 asignaciones

Scales and Key Signatures
In this lesson, we will learn to build the most basic groupings of notes, the scale. In this session, we will explore the concept of the Major scale through listening and written examples. We will also learn to recognize the key signatures in written music. 2 asignaciones

We will continue to explore the concept of scales in this class by looking at the minor scale in comparison to the major scale. We will also briefly explore the concept of scales outside of major and minor. 2 asignaciones

No previous class experience is required since we will start with the basics of how music is notated. However, the class will more at a quick pace so some previous experience with music is recommended.
