This short chapter book is a must read for young animal lovers! Written by master storyteller Farley Mowatt, and based on his own boyhood experiences on the Saskatchewan prairies, "Owls in the Family" will leave you in stitches one minute and pull on your heartstrings the next. Meetings are once a week and will follow this format: -Week One: Introductions and we will read Chapter 1 together. Chapter 2 and 3 will be for homework. -Week Two: Discussion and sharing time. We will read Chapter 4 together. Chapter 5, 6, and 7 will be for homework. -Week Three: Discussion and sharing time. We will read Chapter 8 together. Chapter 9 and 10 will be for homework. -Week Four: Discussion and sharing time. We will read Chapter 11 together.

-to practice reading small sections aloud with expression and fluency
-to broaden geography knowledge about the Canadian prairies, a unique environment in North America

I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs. “Owls in the Family” has been part of my classroom literature collection for many years. Growing up on the Canadian prairies I can certainly relate and speak to the author’s unique point of view.
