Homework will be assigned each week so that students can review and practice the skills that were learned in that week's class. This homework should take approximately 15-20 minutes per day, spread over the week. Since we are practicing breaking down assignments, I would like students to take breaks at various points during the writing process. If students have questions regarding the homework, I encourage them to post in our classroom or message me directly, so that I can provide an explanation. I like my students to know that I am reachable through the platform outside of our scheduled class time.
Evaluación
While I will offer feedback on homework, I do not provide letter grades. At the end of the 13 weeks, I will provide overall feedback and a certificate of completion upon request.

In this 13-week class, resistant writers will practice using the steps in the writing process to break assignments into manageable chunks. This is such an important skill to learn so that the "brain chaos" doesn't take over, a skill used across many facets of life.

We will improve our writing through discussion, feedback, and hands-on experience. Our topics will all be creative in nature, but very open-ended. Students should have a general idea of how to structure a sentence and a paragraph (expertise not required) to be successful in this class.

We will increase creativity, as well as confidence in their abilities by having group discussions, group feedback sessions, as well as individualized feedback from myself. My goal is that by the end of the class students will have a different feeling toward writing and toward their writing abilities. I am happy to provide accommodations for students who need them (documented or not), because I want to help each learner to be successful in my class.

Please see the outline below for details about what we will work on.

Week 1: Introductions, getting to know you, "I AM" writing pieces
Week 2: Review of The Writing Process
Week 3: Choose your Battle Wisely - Persuasive Writing
Week 4: Debate Day - Persuasive Writing
Week 5: That's a Twisted Tale: Writing Fairytales from a different perspective - Narrative Writing
Week 6: Who Am I? - Narrative Writing
Week 7: A Letter to Myself - Letter Writing
Week 8: A Recipe for Disaster - Procedural Writing
Week 9: It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time! - Procedural Writing
Week 10: Character/Setting Development - Learning how to bring the reader into the story
Week 11: Direct Your Talents Here - Writing Short Scripts
Week 12: It's Play Time - Writing Short Scripts
Week 13: Share your favorite pieces

All of our editing and feedback will be encouraging, respectful, and productive. Everyone will have (and is encouraged to have) different ideas and opinions. All perspectives will be honored and accepted.

I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn.

While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling.

*If you don't see a time listed that works for you, please reach out. I am happy to add classes to accommodate students' schedules whenever I can. Thank you!*

Orientación para padres
Students will be using Google docs and Google drive during this class. While these are Outschool-approved resources, parents should know that students will need their own (free) account. Students should NOT share their Google information, we will share work through direct links. Each student will receive a unique-to-them link from me during our first session. All work and direct feedback will be on that document. Please be advised: -All recommendations and assessments made during these classes are my own and based on my own experience and education. They are not reflective of Outschool, as I am an independent contractor.

I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from twelve to twenty-one. We are diving into our 8th year of homeschooling and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.

Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 22 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.

I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also TESOL certified.
