I, as a k-6 certified reading teacher, have seen this phonics instruction, first hand, grow student's test scores, and more importantly their confidence immensely. 

In order to become a good reader a child must build a good foundation of understanding in language comprehension and word recognition. These two things are then broken down into categories, but in this class we will be focusing on word recognition. There are three sub categories to build a total sense of word recognition those are phonological awareness, decoding, and sight recognition. We will be mostly focused on phonological awareness. 

Using the curriculum created by Michael Heggerty this class focuses on phonemic awareness and phonics. Each lesson has short bursts of several topic practices including: rhyming, onset fluency, blending, isolating phonemes, segmenting, adding, deleting, substituting, alphabet knowledge and language awareness. 

With a whole body approach to learning students will build the confidence they need to become great readers by moving as they learn!
Each week will focus on rhyming, blending and segmenting sounds, isolating sounds and words, manipulating word parts, identifying syllables, word grouping and more.  Each week will build skills and continue to grow through short busts of learning.
