Qué está incluido

1 reunión en vivo
25 minutos horas de clase por semana
Tarea
1 hora por semana. Learners can choose to continue to practice at home on their own. I will not be assigning or checking homework. This class pairs well with the addition snake game which is held at the same time on Wednesdays.
Evaluación
As learners get more comfortable with exchanging, you will see their understanding grow when working on these types of problems at home.

**IMPORTANT:
Is your learner ready for this class? Can your learner:
- count by tens and correctly identify the numbers 1-100?
- build the physical quantities of golden beads, base 10 material, or stamp game stamps asked for if given a number like 5,239?
- add numbers in each place value without needing to move to the next place value*? (*For example: 3,482 + 1,415 = 4,897. We call this "static" addition and subtraction in the Montessori world. No "borrowing" or "carrying" is needed.)

If you answered yes to all of the above, then you are in the right spot!

The stamp game is a great way to practice numbers through the thousands place value and the math operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Even if you have never heard of Montessori, this one, hands-on material might make all the difference in the world with your first or second grade learners.

We will be working on "exchanges" in each operation, or "dynamic" addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. (Montessori doesn't use "carry/borrow" -- it's all just an "exchange" at the bank.)

In this ongoing class, we will cycle through all of the operations over the course of 10 weeks. Didn't catch the first class? No problem! Since we are always working on the process of exchanging from one place value to the next, join us at any point, for any operation!

I use a shared screen in class that shows me using the Stamp Game and writing on my own white board. I'm expressive and I encourage enthusiastic participation. I keep the class size limited to a maximum of 5 learners so that everyone can participate. I prefer to leave learners unmuted, but if a background is too noisy, I will ask that they mute unless they are actively speaking.

Learners will need to have their own stamp game or work with a virtual stamp game *on a different device*. Learners should be set up in an area that is free from distractions and they can tilt their screen down so that I can view their work area as needed. Learners should have a white board and marker to record their work as we go.

Either the virtual stamp game or real stamp game is needed for this class. You can find this from many different suppliers. I'm including links for two examples:

While this is a Montessori approach to elementary math, the Stamp Game itself is not limited to only Montessori. It is a concrete approach that pairs well with any curriculum. For example, Singapore math uses a drawn version of this material in their books. Many other "common core" programs will physically represent place value by writing the numbers 1, 10, 100, 1000 on squares. The Stamp Game is exactly the same idea.
