In this multi day class, learners will have the opportunity to practice static division work without regrouping using the Montessori Stamp game. We’ll begin by making introductions, having a brief icebreaker and overviewing the class rules. As a review, we will go over the colors and components of the stamp game, introducing the green skittles as part of our new division work. Learners will be exposed to the following division terminology: divisor, dividend , and quotient. We will also learn the two ways to write division problems. Through an interactive Canva slideshow, we will walk through a simple division problem show how to lay out stamps and skittles as we divide. The work we will practice will have no remainders or regrouping/exchanging initially. Because this is a Montessori course , students will be able to go at their own pace, using their own materials. Assistance will be provided through all parts of the work. Additionally, my document camera will be shared with the students so they can observe exactly how I manipulate stamps and skills throughout the division process. In subsequent lessons, the problems will progress into the hundreds and thousands place value. However, we will begin each class with a review of the previous lesson and allow time to answer any questions or confusion learners may have. For this class, should have a strong foundation in numeration, addition and subtraction skills. It’s also recommended that learners have previous experience with static and dynamic Stamp game work. * Week of Jan, 5, Topic 1- Review of color coded place value and stamp game process will be taught alongside skittles introduction, division terminology, and two ways to write division problems. Instruction will begin with single digit divisors and 2 digit dividends within static division. (84➗2) * * Week of Jan. 12, Topic 2- Time for review of previous content will be given as well as questions. Our stamp game will be used for static division with single digit divisors and 3 digit dividends. (933➗3) Group and independent practice will serve as follow up. * * Week of Jan. 19, Topic 3- After reviewing the static division problems using hundreds dividends with the stamp game, we will extend by going into the thousands with single digit divisors, using our materials and practice attachments. (6824➗2) Extension will also be made available with word problems if appropriate.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 25 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential. For nine years I specialized as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom. I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar, reading comprehension and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space together!
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level.
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga, running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see your child in the classroom soon!
