In this child centered, multi day class, learners will be taught the process of dynamic multiplication with a single digit multiplier using the Montessori stamp game. Students will have the opportunity to see and use Montessori materials in a concrete way to practice these skills. Before instruction begins, we’ll take a few minutes to do introductions, a brief icebreaker and review some simple class rules. Then the fun begins! I will be screen sharing my materials via document camera so learners can have a more genuine and realistic experience of learning dynamic multiplication. Students will practice place value from ones to thousands and review the color coding strategy for each place. (green, blue, red, green) We will practice a simple static multiplication problem into the tens for a warm up. Learners will see an interactive Canva slideshow will review the concept of dynamic multiplication with a few examples. (23x4) The class will also review the important terms of the multiplication process, such as “multiplicand, multiplier, and product.“ We will start with multiplying ones and tens with regrouping, then over the next two meetings, build up to dynamic multiplication in the hundreds and thousands. (23x4, 321x5, 1689x3 ) I will help guide students towards abstraction and give them time to work through problems independently. I believe in student centered learning, so I am happy to adjust to the pace at which they are comfortable and confident. More challenging work can be given if that’s needed as well! Please see the following breakdown of sessions and topics: Week of Jan. 10, Topic 1- Terms of multiplication will be introduced, followed by a review static multiplication problem. Place value will be reviewed, along with the different ways to write a multiplication problem. We will learn the skill of dynamic multiplication with ones and tens using our materials. Time for group and independent practice will be given to reinforce this skill. Week of Jan. 17,Topic 2- We will review some of the work from session one addressing any class questions or confusion. Next we’ll introduce dynamic multiplication into the hundreds. Students will be given ample practice time to solve problems with guidance or independently. Week of Jan. 24, Topic 3- Instruction will be given in dynamic multiplication to the thousands place. Group and independent practice will serve as follow up. As an extension, we can try some word/story problems if time permits. In order to be successful in this course, learners should be able to count by tens, identify ones, tens and hundreds, build and read higher numbers, add numbers and write larger numbers correctly. Students should also be familiar with the skill of trading or regrouping for this class. I look forward to helping your learner build their concrete and abstract math skills in this engaging and stimulating course. See you in math class!

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 20 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential. For nine years I specialized as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom. I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space together!
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level.
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga, running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see your child in the classroom soon!
