WELCOME SHOOTING STARS! 💫

Shooting Star Academy’s full curriculum Third Grade class gives learners a complete classroom experience with writing, STEM science, reading time, beginning linguistics in Spanish, advanced English Language Arts, and Montessori math. Our teachers work hard to ensure each student’s needs are met, and we love helping children improve all of their scholastic skills!

Each lesson begins with calendar time, charting the weather, and sharing time.

English days consist of Montessori Grammar symbols, beginning Spanish concepts (like “what day of the week is it?”, or “what is the most common weather type in class?”), punctuation, intro to writing paragraphs, and/or story time.

Science days incorporate STEM projects or experimental worksheets that will be based on our monthly themes. Projects will be completed several times per month (we supply monthly schedules upon enrolling), and we will work on matching, identifying, and classifying.

Math days use a variety of techniques between Montessori and Reggio Emilia. This age group will have topics that range from money proficiency, to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division fact families and use them in equations and two-step word problems. We will use several manipulatives which will be posted as necessary over the course of the year.

All manipulatives will be provided weekly to the student and parents in the classroom tab by the assigned teacher the Sunday before scheduled classes to give families time to prepare.

The monthly themes are:

January - Birthdays/Human Body
February - Friendship/States of Matter
March - Farm/All About Plants
April - Weather/Types of Weather
May - Rainforest Exploration/Insects
(Summer classes run from June-August)
September - Camping/Forest
October - Professions/The Five Senses
November - Space/Outer Space
December - Winter!/Arctic and Polar Animals

Otros detalles

Necesidades de aprendizaje
Our Montessori-inspired education can benefit children with ADHD, dyslexia, or dyscalculia by being hands-on, student-led, and compassionate to all learning paces. We also have experience educating students on the autistic spectrum.
Orientación para padres
Since these classes do include crafts and science projects, there are potential hazards for young learners. Example: using scissors in class. It may be necessary for a parent to supervise cutting, pasting, or other hands-on activities.
Lista de útiles escolares
Every Sunday parent’s are given a weekly resource packet in the classroom tab. There are materials that will need to be printed out, so a printer is required to participate in these classes.
Students should also general school supplies like glue sticks, colored pencils/crayons/markers, scissors, and a wipe board with dry erase markers.

Miss Teri
Welcome to Shooting Star Academy! 💫

✨MISSION STATEMENT✨

Our mission is to empower young through Montessori-inspired Curriculum, to build lasting bonds, establish a firm foundation in all core subjects, and build confidence.

We are dedicated to supporting parents and families with their Homeschooler's learning journeys while creating lasting bonds.

We all value our students and make sure to communicate closely with parents about their learner needs!

✨OUR TEACHERS✨

We are a group of seven teachers: Ms. Daniela, Ms. Theresa, Ms. Victoria, Ms. Teri, Ms. Natalie, and Ms. Jennifer.

We all have experience and training in Montessori and Reggio Emilia teaching techniques. All of us have had formal teaching positions in various capacities such as children programs or local school districts. We all have vast experience teaching online, have professional home office online classrooms, and are dedicated and hard working. Shooting Star Academy Teachers are required to have 5+ years of teaching experience.

We all have experience and certification teaching Montessori Math and Grammar, English Language Arts, STEM Science, and basic Spanish learning.

✨COURSES WE OFFER✨

We specialize in interactive, exciting online learning for primary school-aged children. We focus on ages 3-8, and we teach a full year curriculum with educational techniques and resources inspired by Montessori and Reggio Emilia from preschool to second grade. The ones that we have had the privilege to work with so far are all homeschoolers, and they primarily live in the USA.

Our star classes include American Sign-Language, English Language Arts, Spanish Language Arts, Science, and Math. These classes are modeled with Montessori techniques that have been developed and tested over hundreds of students over the past year.

We offer a few fun and interactive specialized Spanish courses, like Minecraft Spanish and weekly build and talk with legos. Everything we work on incorporates hands-on learning and student-driven discussions while maintaining small class sizes.

Ms. Natalie is a certified American Sign Language teacher, and she has over 16 years experience in learning and teaching ASL with both children and adults.

Grant Pray is a mechanical engineer for BAE Systems (British Aerospace Engineering), and he works on ICBM projects. In his undergraduate degree, he spent 5 years private tutoring ages 16-40 to help put himself through college. He has extensive knowledge in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

Kendal Smith graduated from BYU-Idaho where he help pay for his BS in Mechanical Engineering by tutoring all the core math classes for engineering. HIs first job after collage was a mechanical designer for a MEP consulting firm where he optimized the HVAC system in all types of buildings in Southern California. Kendal is currently a sales engineer and has become a fluid hydronic specialist for the HVAC engineers designing with his equipment.

It is our goal to have long term, ongoing classes that give students freedom to come and go as necessary, while still covering topics that will set them up with a firm foundation in all core subjects.

We hope to see you in class soon!
