WELCOME SHOOTING STARS! 💫

Shooting Star Academy’s full curriculum Preschool class gives learners a complete classroom experience with handwriting, science, story time, beginning linguistics in Spanish, English Language Arts, and little-learner beginning math. Our teachers work hard to ensure each student’s needs are met, and these courses are designed so that a learner can come and go each week as needed. We do not build upon previous content, so it isn’t necessary to attend every week consecutively.

Each lesson begins with calendar time, charting the weather, and warm-up songs.

English days consist of Montessori handwriting with a sand tray (or appropriate substitute), Animal Alphabet, beginning Spanish concepts (like, what day of the week is it, or what is the most common weather type in class), and/or story time.

Practical life days incorporate fine-motor skill development with activities that will be based on our monthly themes. This could include picking up items with our fingers, sensory play/exploration, or pouring liquids.

Math days use a variety of techniques between Montessori and Reggio Emilia. This age group focuses mainly on number sense up to 10, and subtizing (identifying the quantities related to numbers.) Subtraction and addition will be covered. We will use several manipulatives over the course of the year.

All manipulatives will be provided weekly to the student and parents in the classroom tab by the assigned teacher the Sunday before scheduled classes to give families time to prepare.

The monthly themes are:

January - Birthdays/Human Body
February - Friendship/States of Matter
March - Farm/All About Plants
April - Weather/Types of Weather
May - Rainforest Exploration/Insects
June - Beach Vacation/In the Ocean
July - Travel the World/Climate Types
August - Dinosaurs/Geology
September - Camping/Forest
October - Professions/The Five Senses
November - Space/Outer Space
December - Winter!/Arctic and Polar Animals
