This class is designed to be a fun experience drawing mash-up monsters, where learners get to collaboratively decide what their mash-up monsters will look like and then at the end of the game see how all of the different monsters that learners have drawn share the same attributes (number of eyes, horns, other features like fangs and fur, etc.) but are unique creations of their own. We'll talk about different examples of monsters, emphasize that not all monsters are scary -- some are fun and silly! -- and think about various attributes that make monsters monsters -- horns, scales, fantastic tails and other such things -- before starting to draw together. During class, learners in the class will take turns deciding on the various features of the monsters by asking questions. Questions can be open-ended (Should our monster have feathers?) or specific (How many eyes does our monster have?) For example, one learner might ask "How many horns should our monsters have?" and another student will reply with an answer. (Maybe our monster has 4 horns!) That learner who decided the number will then ask the next question, maybe "Should our monster have wings?" where a different learner will get to decide, and so on until everyone who wants a turn has had one. (In smaller classes, we will repeat through multiple turns and possibly draw more than one monster.) By the end of the class each learner will have drawn a monster using the same parameters as their classmates, but in their own unique and fun style. Learners can decide to color in their monsters if they would like. Learners will be encouraged but not required to participate in the asking-and-answering part of class, but everyone will be encouraged to have fun drawing silly monster mash-ups! My teaching style is fun and interactive. I have experience leading after school arts classes and drawing classes, and have taught this activity to students before with hilarious and fun result. Class will encourage participating and social interaction, and no "drawing skills" are required -- this class is for everyone.

Hello! My name is Anne (she/her) and I am an artist and educator based in New England, USA. I've worked as an educator in a variety of settings ranging from afterschool arts programming to hands-on science programming to speaking and presentation skills with non-native speakers of English. My academic background is in English literature and popular culture, but I have a wide range of teaching interests.
As a non-traditional learner myself, I believe that people learn in many different ways, so it is vital to meet students where they're at. Education should be interesting and engaging.
I am available for a variety of arts-based classes (including developing new classes) as well as private tutorials; please feel free to message if either of those are of interest to you or your learner. I do tend to hold classes even with lower enrollment numbers, and am happy to schedule additional sections depending on scheduling and needs. My goal is to have the classroom be an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages creativity and creative thinking.
A fun fact about me: I've been a roller derby referee for over ten years!
I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
