Money-Smarts 101 is a 55 minute hands-on, interactive workshop, where children learn how to think before they buy. This involves discussing why thinking before buying does so much more than just save us money, then taking it for a "test drive" by quickly researching the full value of a possible purchase, as well as how much the item or experience being considered, will really be used and appreciated, BEFORE, your child asks for it. Kids learn about things like Sales Tax, Return Policies,...
Esta clase se imparte en Inglés.
- Children experience that thinking before buying does NOT mean you never get to do or buy anything fun! It just means that you plan your spending to avoid disappointment (buyer's remorse), reduce waste, improve family harmony, and protect the planet!
My formal education is in Economics. I worked for a global bank as a Risk Analyst before my family was born. My family is now grown. I have been teaching kids how to think before they buy for over 8 years now - and I love it! Thinking before buying is the cornerstone of being money-smart because it allows school-aged children to practice getting and using (at first basic) financial information to make their lives better. Asking and answering simple questions about typical childhood purchases very naturally reveals that anyone can, and should want, to ask questions about money! This is why I believe giving kids the habit of thinking before buying is one of the best gifts ever. And - it's not that hard a gift to give. GiftingSense.org (we use the Gifting Sense DIMS SCORE® calculator in workshop) has been recognized at the Money Awareness & Inclusion Awards for three years running: As one of the best Non-Profit School-Aged Financial Education Programs available in 2022, as the Runner-Up for the SKBI Sustainable Finance Literacy Prize in 2023, and again as one of the best non-profit financial education programs for school-aged children in 2024.

Every student receives a pdf summary of all the math and thinking they have done when calculating the DIMS - Does It Make Sense? Score for a possible purchase. They can embed an image into that summary, which is particularly helpful if they are going to forward it to out-of-town family members who may have asked what your son or daughter might like to receive for an upcoming holiday or birthday gift.Evaluación
Frecuencia: incluidoDetalles: Before you know it, your kids will be asking themselves "What's the DIMS Score?" before spending their money, or anyone else's! Your family will be able to discuss the pros and cons of possible purchases in a relaxed but structured fashion, because you'll be armed with all the relevant information, in advance of having to make a decision. Parents are shocked to see children change their minds about a possible purchase after calculating the DIMS Score. Kids are shocked to see how quickly their parents get behind a request when it is made in advance, with thought and manners. Fewer, better quality requests to spend, improve family harmony.
If you let me know in advance what supports can be helpful, I will do my best to accommodate. You can also schedule a one-on-one class where my attention will be undivided.
You children will be calculating the DIMS - Does It Make Sense? Score for possible purchases on the https://giftingsense.org/ website. Gifting Sense offers a free and safe online calculator that collects no personal information. If your children want to print off the shareable summary of all the math and thinking they have done, they will need access to a printer. Please visit the site to learn more. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
