Each month and week we will be looking at a required learning area for Key Stage 1 maths in a fun, easy-to-understand way. We will look at slides I have prepared for you that explain each concept and then we will complete worksheets to show you have understood what you are learning. Don't worry if you don't 'get it' at first - let me know if you are finding something tricky as I have other ways to help you understand and it's much better for you to tell me than to worry about getting things a bit wrong (*Parents, please do let me know if your child is struggling with anything). The areas covered are broadly outlined below:

IMPORTANT NOTES:
*Please note that I will add the dates for each topic as the dates approach - should your child stay in this class and find they are struggling in a specific area, concepts may be extended, in which case the dates may be amended.
**Please also note that for the best outcome for your child, the worksheets I provide will need to be printed out and ready for your child to use in class.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have delivered maths to all age groups from primary school children (KS1 and KS2) and adults (Functional Skills Maths) for over 30 years. I have spent many years leading interventions (group work) to primary children who were at risk of falling behind in their learning. Making the classes fun helps children to learn, even the most reluctant learners. I understand that for some children, 'doing maths' is a frightening thing - fear of failure can make a child not want to try - I regularly 'make mistakes' in class to show the children that getting things wrong is fine! If they can see that adults get things wrong (and can laugh at their errors) it becomes a safe space for them.
