Modelo de Naciones Unidas: Encontrar la paz y la seguridad en un mundo complicado

Join this model United Nations experience and become a country delegate for a session of intensive debates, negotiations and resolutions. Learners will gain a deep understanding of the UN, its purposes and principles, its workings and its challenges. 

The first two classes will engage learners in discussions as we learn the details of how the UN operates and an even more in-depth understanding of the particular section of the UN that the scenario will be dealing with. Then, each learner will be assigned to represent a country within the United Nations.  Each session will include a different geo-political situation to solve - from conflict in the South China Sea, to an environmental treaty that must be negotiated to a war waging in Latin American delegates will learn to argue, negotiate, critically think, compromise and ultimately to come together to find a resolution.  The final three weeks of the class will find learners engaged in a simulated meeting, representing their country as a delegate to represent their country at the meeting, making observations  and suggesting  resolutions.  They will debate, negotiate and ultimately work toward a global resolution of the conflict.  

Each session will be a new and interesting scenario to delve into.  

Learners need no background knowledge of the UN, as the first classes will work to provide the necessary background knowledge.  Homework may be assigned, such as preparing their argument for the Security Council meeting or researching previous similar situations to come before the Security Council. The ultimate goal of the course is that the learners have so much fun that they can’t believe how much they learned during their time at Model UN.
