Informal Assessment: During the class, students get a chance to share the mod they are creating with the class. During the share, the teacher highlights creative aspects of their mod and makes suggestions when appropriate. The goal of this is really to highlight students' creativity and point out that everyone has the ability to produce unique and creative content.

Part 2 in Creating Minecraft Mods Path-- Students should have taken Modding With Minecraft (Beginner Modding) before taking this class. This class builds on and extends concepts learned in the first class.

Future-Ready Skills-- Create2Discover classes integrate future-ready skills into the curriculum to help prepare students for a rapid-changing future. This class includes exercises that help students improve their ability to generate creative ideas and solutions. Students learn different brainstorming techniques that allow them to see multiple possibilities.
-------------------------------------
Take what you learned in Part 1 to the next level. Create new worlds in Minecraft with custom weather and conditions. Populate new biomes with advanced plants and particles. Finally, learn how to use Blockbench and MCreator to design and code drivable vehicles.

In this class, students will learn to…
–Create a new biomes and dimensions in Minecraft with special weather and conditions.
–Use coding variables to keep track of biome information and change conditions based on the values of those variables.
–Use logic and variables do create new weather events in Minecraft.
–Code plants in biomes to respond to entities and conditions around them.
–Design and code a vehicle in Minecraft.
–Create new key bindings in Minecraft using logic and boolean variables (design new actions on a key press).
-Learn brainstorming techniques to generate creative solutions to problem.

Week by Week Schedule

Week 1
-Creating custom biomes and dimensions.

Week 2
–Creating custom weather in biomes from previous class.
–Creating and coding clouds and particles.

Week 3

Week 4
–Triggering a weather event to occur based off player actions using logic and variables.
–Creating a global variable.

Technology/Software Requirements

Minecraft
A Minecraft (PC/MAC-Java Edition) is required for this program. See below.
-Minecraft-- https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition/
-Other editions of Minecraft (like Windows 10 and Pocket Edition) will not work with the class.
-You must have a PC or Mac to run this edition of Minecraft. It will not work on a ChromeBook or tablet.
-Note For Mac Users: The Minecraft website only lists Java Edition for PC. This is a result of Mojang bundling Java Edition and Bedrock Edition together. Bedrock edition does not work on the Mac, but you can still purchase Minecraft and Java edition will work on your Mac. We don't need Bedrock edition for class.

MCreator
Important Note: MCreator is a free open source program and is partly supported by ads on its website. MCreator should be downloaded and installed under parent supervision to avoid clicking on ads on the website. Please follow the directions you receive after registration that will guide you through download and install. There are no ads inside the software after it is downloaded and installed. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help and support in doing this.

Blockbench
Students use a free program called Blockbench (a 3D model editor) to create a custom texture for an NPC (Mob). https://www.blockbench.net/
Metas de aprendizaje
–Use coding variables to keep track of biome information and change conditions based on the values of those variables.
–Use logic and variables do create new weather events in Minecraft.

Programa de estudios

8 Lecciones
más de 8 semanas
Lección 1:
Custom Biomes and Dimensions
Students learn how to create their own custom worlds (biomes) in Minecraft. They learn how to customize the land, air, and water colors. Students also create custom trees that will generate in their biome. Finally, students learn to create their own dimension to hold the biomes they create.

Lección 2:
Weather Event: Part 1
Students start a 3 part lesson in which they will learn how to generate a custom storm in Minecraft with clouds and particles they design. The focus in this lesson is on creating the custom clouds and coding them to release particles (downfall like rain). At the end of the lesson, students also practice creative problem solving to brainstorm ideas for how they can code the particles to deal damage to the player.

Lección 3:
Plants
Students learn how to use Blockbench to design and create a custom plant for Minecraft. This plant will later be used to help trigger the storm they started working in the previous class. Focus is on how to create a model for the plant and texture it.

Lección 4:
Weather Event: Part 2
Students learn how to write code that keeps track of when a player destroys (mines) one of the plants they made in the previous lesson. They learn how to use global variables to store this information and logic to trigger code that builds an array of the clouds they designed in lesson 2. Students also learn about using a creative problem solving technique called copy-nature in which they look to designs in nature to come up with creative solutions to a problem.
