In this class we will read through the book "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins. This is the third book in the Hunger Games series.  This class is open to students who have never read this book and students who may have read the book previously but would like to re-read it in a book club setting. This is the last book in the series so students should have previously read "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire" before taking this class and reading "Mockingjay." If you are interested in this book series but have not read the other books, please check out my other book club classes for the first two books.

Students will complete the reading ahead of time and then we will meet together to discuss the book. Through our class discussions we will work on:

 -comprehension skills
-analyzing the characters and their actions
-making connections
-discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book
-comparing and contrasting different characters and events

The teacher will use discussion questions to guide student conversations and discussions. Students are encouraged to jot down any questions or thoughts they have while reading to share with the class. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings from the readings each session.

We will meet twice a week for three weeks. "Mockingjay" is divided into three sections and we will read one section each week. This will end up being 4 or 5 chapters between each class period.

Please have the first 4 chapters read before the first class meeting.

Class 3- Chapters 10-13
Class 4- Chapters 14-18
Class 5- Chapters 19-22
Class 6- Chapters 23-27 and the Epilogue
