Students will learn about spelling through the smelting process used in Minecraft. They will see how their favorite game of building parallels the English writing system's language building blocks. Students will learn how ingots and composites relate to the English structure of word construction, with bases and affixes. Students will also learn about linguistic blends with the goal of being able to recognize them in the game and non-game vocabulary. Word pronunciation will also be emphasized to support reading. The format is a combination of teacher presentation and student input as this type of word study is collaborative in nature. Come learn about the smelting words in the Minecraft universe.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am an educational therapist providing online services. I have been studying Structured Word Inquiry (SWI) for several years. This class focuses on using SWI with Minecraft smelting vocabulary. I have found that learning about spelling and reading using vocabulary that students are interested in motivates them to learn and creates a higher retention rate.
