Evaluación
Students will be given comprehension and vocabulary checks throughout the lesson. These assessments will be given during class and self-checks will be used as material is reviewed with the teacher. Students will be required to participate in the group discussions and oral questioning can be used for those in need of accommodation.

In this class, students will engage in explicit reading instruction for middle school students that need to focus on building fluency within informational texts, comprehension and vocabulary building skills. The topics for these lessons will rotate among four main topics in the following manner:
Week One- June 3, 2024: Historical Text - Americans Who Dream
Week Two- June 10, 2024:  Science Text - The Stars We See
Week Three- June 17, 2024: Arts Text - The Story of Dance
Week Four - June 24, 2024: Literature Feature - Mythology Begins
Within each lesson students will work with key vocabulary concepts that require them to apply the knowledge acquired from the text. Students will be able to self-identify key words and phrases that they need to search for meaning within the text to appropriately comprehend. Students will use the read and re-read approach to increase comprehension and build written responses to open-ended questions.
Students will engage in teacher-led reading, independent reading and investigative reading to highlight key text areas. Students will be able to participate in open ended discussions that use inference and generalization skills.
There is a minimum of four students for this class.

This class is designed for unique learners and struggling readers at the middle school level. Instructional design focuses on reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension of informational text in arts, social studies and science topics.

Hello everyone!  I have 24 years of experience teaching students with special needs and abilities across the K-12 spectrum.  I have also taught K-8 core curriculum, such as reading, math, social studies and science.  I am now an administrator for Exceptional Children and Specialized Instructional Supports.  I hold a Bachelors of Science degree for Special Education and a Masters Degree in Administration, Curriculum and Instructional Design.
I believe that every child, regardless of ability levels are like a very unique lock, and as teachers it is our task to find just the right key to unlock their potential.  I love to watch students build confidence in their work when we take complex tasks and break them down into small tasks for mastery.
I love to teach reading skills from beginning decoding to novel studies, foundational math skills, writing progressions, and social/emotional lessons.  My brother and I both have learning disabilities and that has been a catalyst for my work since the beginning!  I can't wait to meet your child!
