Ciencias físicas de la escuela secundaria: énfasis en la física de la vida real
Experiencia de clase
Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Nivel Beginner
This course will focus on Middle School Physical Science concepts with an emphasis on real-life usage of these concepts based on the teacher’s experience as an Aviation Meteorologist and as a STEM-certified Arizona teacher. The core material is based on the textbook, Physical Science 12th Edition by Bill W. Tillery (no purchase necessary) and supplemented by PowerPoint slides, and real-life examples. The focus will be on physical science concepts and not high-level math. Only basic math is...
15 lessons//15 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Motion, Speed, and AccelerationDescribe motion changes in speed over time and understand the difference between speed, velocity, and acceleration.Week 2Lesson 2Horizontal Motion and Falling ObjectsUnderstanding the concepts of friction, inertia, and how objects fall and an introduction to gravity.Week 3Lesson 3Three Laws of MotionLooking at Newton's three Laws of Motion and defining the concepts with examples and how these laws apply to real-life situations.Week 4Lesson 4Circular Motion ForcesUnderstanding the concepts of circular motion includes the concepts of centripetal force, centrifugal force, gravity, pressure gradient force, and coriolis force, as well as how these forces apply to gradient winds in the atmosphere.Week 5Lesson 5Heat and Energy Transfer Part OneUnderstanding the kinetic molecular theory, phases of matter, temperature and energy transfer, and the different scales for temperature.Week 6Lesson 6Heat and Energy Transfer Part TwoDelving into the concepts of conduction, radiation, and convection.Week 7Lesson 7Complex Water CycleThis class will focus on the complete water cycle above and below ground, including the concepts of precipitation, condensation, transpiration, evaporation, sublimation, infiltration, interception, and other ideas related to the water cycle process.Week 8Lesson 8Weather and the CloudsThis section will focus on the atmospheric applications of physics, looking at the different types of clouds in the atmosphere.Week 9Lesson 9Weather and ThunderstormsWe will continue expanding on the concept of the cumulonimbus cloud, lightning, its power, and some safety aspects around lightning.Week 10Lesson 10Weather with Airmasses and Frontal SystemsThe focus will be on looking at the different airmasses, source regions, and frontal boundaries associated with the airmasses.Week 11Lesson 11Waves, Motion for SoundUnderstanding the physical aspects of all types of waves, including transverse and longitudinal waves, vibrations of sound waves through different mediums, labeling the concepts of the wave, and understanding amplitude, frequency, wavelength, and other topics.Week 12Lesson 12Understanding Light Part OneThe focus will be on sources of light, properties of light such as luminous and incandescent, the electromagnetic spectrum, the path of light, reflection, absorption, and transmission of light.Week 13Lesson 13Understanding Light Part TwoThe discussion of the evidence for light, particle theory, polarization, lasers, electromagnetic fields, and real-life concepts and applications for light.Week 14Lesson 14ElectricityUnderstanding electricity ionization of atoms, conductors versus insulators, measuring electrical charges, and force fields.Week 15Lesson 15MagnetismDelving into magnetism concepts of magnetic poles, repelling forces, magnetic fields, magnetosphere, and real-world applications.
- The goal is to introduce the students to basic concepts in physical science in an engaging environment and illustrate real-world applications of these concepts throughout the course. This course will explore heat transfer, meteorological concepts, light, electricity, and magnetism.
The teacher is a state-certified STEM teacher.
