Middle School Mingle is a safe space for middle school aged kids to meet up and socialize.  They topic of the day will vary, based on what students want to talk about.  There is not educational content being taught, just social skills and listening skills.  While this is a great place for kids to meet other kids and chill out and chat, it's also a great place for kids to work on how to be a good listener and how to carry on a conversation.  While to most adults this seems like a commonsense skill, it's not necessarily so with kids now days.  Due to the wonderful invention of smart phones, kids are able to easily communicate with friends and family without ever talking.  Middle School Mingle is a great way for kids to get some friend interaction while working on their social skills and learning how to adapt to new kids they have never met before.  
Most meet ups will have a never-ending barrage of conversation going.  However, on the rare occasion that there is a lull in the conversation, I will have pre-planned activities to help get everyone talking.  I will also start out each class with a welcome activity, which will be a question meant to get everyone talking and for us to learn new things about those in our Mingle group.
